Batemans Bay

Batemans Bay

Earlier this year we ventured down south to Batemans Bay, for a week long break. We packed up the old Yaris, and headed on the road.

Ten minutes in, Darcey threw up. Not the best start. Here we are undressing her on the side of the road, wondering if this was the best idea. Thankfully, this was a one off.

The curse of Culburra was still very evident on this trip. I think we had one warm day, which we spent at the beach. The rest of the week felt like I was back in the UK. Such a shame. One day we will have a sunny week away.

The house, Carries Cottage was great. Everything you would ever need. Mabel and Warren made themselves at home. Even enjoyed the stairs, which we don’t have at home. Frenchie’s and stairs don’t mix well. Picture the opening scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark and the bolder. Darcey was keen to explore the farm, which we did on numerous occasions. Lots of chickens, Cows, a donkey and some lively dogs.

The only down side was some of the locals misguided opinion on the recent Covid scare in Sydney. We was even told we wouldn’t be welcome in the local pub. Clearly in their eyes, every person in Sydney had COVID. I get it. Scary times. But if you want tourists to help stabilise the local economy, don’t treat us like we are all the problem. We’re here for a good time and spend some coin. This was a common thread throughout our stay. Thankfully we just ignored it, and didn’t have any issues, except for the pub.

Despite the weather and some signs saying locals only, we had a great time. We met up with some friends. Drank beers and had good food. Had a beach day, explored the farm and made new fur friends. I got chased by a cow. Darcey connected with the sheep and we had a zoo day, which Darcey loved. We had an epic storm on the first night with great views. Think this was the first time Darcey had seen a proper storm. She was brave.I was in my element.

Naturally,  I think the sun came out on the day we left, hashtag standard. En route home, we did the obligatory stop off in Berry, as you do. Grabbed some food and off we went. Home sweet home!
